Bolsover Festival of Brass 2014

Bolsover’s Festival of Brass was held at Heritage High School in Clowne on Sunday the 5th October 2014. A total of forty bands took part in the six-section contest. Eight bands including The Skelmanthorpe Band competed under the critical ear and eye of the championship section’s adjudicator for the day, Stephen Roberts.

The main hall was full to capacity for Skelmanthorpe’s performance, establishing the band’s popularity. The audience enjoyed an entertaining performance full of animation and choreography, which began with a lively rendition of the marionette television-series theme tune, Barry Gray’s Stingray. This, along with the remainder of the programme, was rated with well-deserved and enthusiastic applause.

Only three points separated the winners, Derwent Brass and The Skelmanthorpe Band – who gained a commendable fourth place.
