Brass at the Guild Hall 2015

On Sunday 1st of February, Skelmanthorpe Band crossed the Pennines to take part in the 11th Brass at the Guild Contest in Preston, supported by Lancashire Contests and the Guild Hall itself.

The contest kicked off at 10am with the lower sections in the Charter Theatre. However Skelmanthorpe’s section (Championship/First) followed later at around 3pm in the Grand Hall. The adjudicator for the day was David Horsefield. Forty bands competed in total over four sections: Championship/First Section, Second Section, Third Section and Fourth Section.

All bands competing in the Championship/First section chose to showcase their early season form of the set work for the forthcoming Regional Finals contest, ‘The Torchbearer’ by Peter Graham and under the determined direction of its MD, Martin Hall, Skelmanthorpe Band ‘pursued an uncomplicated and direct approach that contrasted with the more lyrical style of Yorkshire
Imperial’ (4barsrest).

Placed 10th on the day, Skelmanthorpe Band are now looking ahead, concentrating their efforts towards the fast approaching Yorkshire Regional Championships coming up in March. The band would like to thank Tommy Tynan on Eb Bass for his help during rehearsals and on the day.
