Saturday 24th September 2016 was a fantastic day for the Skelmanthorpe Brass Band Community. More than 30 brass and percussion musicians from the Community and bands from the surrounding area gathered at Scissett Middle School for a Mastering Musicianship Day.
The day began with a singing warm-up session led by Len Tyler, Kodaly Teacher.
This was followed by different workshops:
- Brass improvisation, led by professional Trumpet player Anthony Thompson.
- Samba, led by Robert Jaggar.
- Singing & Rhythm led by Len Tyler.
During the afternoon everyone played various compositions together as a band. The day concluded with a showcase in which the different groups performed what they had learned during the masterclass.
Thanks go to the tutors, volunteers and Kirklees Council who sponsored the day though an Arts in the Neighbourhood grant.
