Concert with Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir

The longest day of the year saw Skelmanthorpe Band join forces once more with Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir to put on a sell out concert at St John the Evangelist Church, Upper Denby.

The concert came about following the two organisation’s numerous appearances together at the annual Penistone Paramount Christmas concert and both Musical Directors were keen to do something together in a more temperate climate!

Bolsterstone gave impressive renditions of the catchy ‘Sloop John B’, ‘Portrait of my love and closed with music from the hit musical ‘Les Miserables’.

The band’s programme included a performance ‘The President’, the march played at the recent victory at the Morley march contest as well as well received solos from Mike Kilmartin (‘On with the Motley’ on the Soprano cornet) and Laura Brown (‘Evergreen’ on Solo horn). The second half consisted entirely of a programme of film music from ‘Dam Busters’ and ‘Rocky’ to Philip Sparke’s excellent arrangement of the recent Bond theme ‘Skyfall’. The concert closed with a joint version of the popular hymn tune ‘Cwm Rhonda’ also known as ‘Bread of Heaven’.
