Butlins Mineworkers Championships 2017

What a superb weekend for The Skelmanthorpe Brass Band Community at the 2017 Butlins Mineworkers Open Championships in Skegness.

Playing Malcolm Arnold’s ‘Fantasy for Brass Band’, The Skelmanthorpe Band were placed first in the First Section out of a mammoth field of 24 bands and carried off the Butlins trophy and £2000. Conductor Jim Davies said “I was so pleased with the way the band played. They are working very hard and this has given us a huge boost ahead of the Yorkshire Areas.”

The Skelmanthorpe Prospect Band almost emulated the senior band, in coming second in the Second Section out of 18 bands, playing ‘Inclusion’ (Paul Sharman) under the baton of their conductor Phil Garlick.

Both bands performed off a number 18 draw.
