The Leicestershire Brass Band Association’s November Contest (more commonly known as The Leicester Contest) this year moved to a new venue of Loughborough Endowed Schools. With around 50 bands competing over the five regular sections plus the recently established unregistered section, there was no shortage of competition for The Skelmanthorpe Band.
Competing in the first Section against no less than fourteen other competitors, The Skelmanthorpe Band took up the gauntlet playing Edward Gregson’s Dances & Arias.
Giving a ‘clean and tidy performance’ (All4Brass) the band gave its competitors a run for their money by taking second place with 187 points – being pipped at the post only by Kidlington Concert Band’s 189 points.
Principal Cornet Player, Sharon Swales said, ‘2nd place at the Leicester contest – Happy days. Much work to do in the coming months towards Butlins and the Area next year but definitely moving in the right direction’. Paul Oldfield added, ‘It’s good to be back on tenor horn after my short spell on Bb cornet. Well played everyone, a great day and a great result’.
