Morley March Contest 2012

The weather was really kind to us on 17th June 2012 at the Morley March contest. A large and appreciative crowd had turned out to watch Skelmanthorpe B Band march down from the Ernie Wise statue to Morley town Hall playing Army of the Nile.

Our first piece on the contest stand was the beautiful Hymn Deep Harmony, which was full of tonal qualities and melodious deep sounds. Next we played our contest march, Viva Birkenshaw and we were off to a flying start, zipping along through the technical runs. The expression on Phil Garlick‘s face and the resounding applause at the end, told the band we had played well and he was proud of our performance.

Whilst we were awaiting the results, we were all entertained by the City of Bradford band who gave a short concert.

The results were announced. We gave a mighty cheer as we had won Best 3rd section band.

The highlight of the day was coming 5th overall beating some stiff competition from Hade Edge (a championship section band), City of Bradford and Kippax to name a few.
