On Sunday 16 November 2014, Unite the Union (City of Sheffield) Band hosted its annual band club prize-giving concert. Fifteen bands took part in the series of concerts throughout the year, which saw a number of highly entertaining programmes and soloists.
The trophy for the ‘Most Entertaining Band’ was awarded to Skelmanthorpe Prospect Brass and its Musical Director, Phil Garlick.
The best soloist prize was awarded to Scott Dawson from Emley Band, who again performed his prize-winning solo of Grandfather’s Clock. The award for best musical director was awarded to Damien Wileman of Cornerstone Band.
Finally, the award for services to band club was awarded to Edward Knowles in recognition of his hard work and dedication in organising the band club concerts over the last 8 years. This year, the role of Organiser is passed over to Andrew Horton who, along with the Unite the Union Band, is now looking forward to this year’s series of concerts which started on Sunday 25 January 2015 and will see Skelmanthorpe Prospect Brass performing its concert on Sunday 22nd March 2015.
