Skelmanthorpe Band are delighted to announce the arrival of 4 new members within the last few weeks.
Connor Lennon has accepted the position of soprano. Currently studying trumpet at Huddersfield university, Connor has played for Bolton Hoover, Poulton le fylde, Wingates, Wardle and Anderson, and most recently at Wakefield Metropolitan. Connor said “I’m delighted for this opportunity, and looking forward to a long and successful period with the band”.
At only 13 years of age, Hannah Stell has rapidly moved up through the Skelmanthorpe Brass Band Community ladder onto solo trombone. Winner of various slow melody prizes and winner of the 3rd Section Soloist prize at the Yorkshire Area, the band are delighted with Hannah’s progress and potential for the future.
Andy Hunt has also joined on front row cornet. Andy previously played principal cornet for Garforth Brass and for Stanley Newmarket bands. Andy added “its great to join and be part of this friendly, social community band, and I look forward to my future with Skelmanthorpe”.
The final new signing is the experienced Steve Bey who has accepted the position of principal Eb bass. Steve, a former member of the Welsh Guards, has played for several orchestras, brass bands, wind bands and brass ensembles, including Leeds Symphony Orchestra and Yorkshire Imperial Brass Band.
The band would like to thank outgoing players Mark Wilkinson and Mike Kilmartin for their services to the band. They also extend their gratitude to Les Beevers. Les had been conducting the band on a temporary basis, including successful concerts at Shelley College and York National Railway Museum. Les also took the baton at Barnsley Metropolitans’ excellent “BandFest 2013” where the band concluded the night’s proceedings to an appreciative audience.
