The Skelmanthorpe Brass Band Community Summer Fair

With heavy, morning showers threatening to persist into the afternoon, band members, friends and supporters were determined that the inclement weather would not spoil the fun to be had at the Skelmanthorpe Brass Band Community’s Summer Fair.

Thankfully, the weather was kind throughout the afternoon of Sunday the 19th July 2015 and villagers from Skelmanthorpe and its surrounding areas were able to enjoy themselves unhampered by dripping umbrellas and dampened raincoats.

Inside the bandroom, stall-holders traded their wares, opportunists bought tickets offering the chance to win a multitude of prizes on several different tombola stands and refreshments were served, while outdoors the fun and games included face-painting, hook-a-duck, 10 pin bowling, lucky dip and for those in need of more than a light snack, the barbecue.

Alfresco musical entertainment was also provided throughout the afternoon by Skelmanthorpe Training Band and the Community Ensemble. At this point, both the band and audience were treated to a short burst of impromptu musical direction from the recovering Prospect Brass MD, Phil Garlick. This was met with rapturous applause and cheers of approval.
