With strong winds and heavy showers looming on this July Summer’s evening, The Skelmanthorpe Band, Skelmanthorpe Prospect Brass and Skelmanthorpe Training Band came together at Thorncliffe Working Men’s Club for what has now become their annual ‘Proms In The Park’ concert.
Those who were brave enough to face the elements enjoyed a fantastic evening of music which kicked off with the Training Band followed by Prospect Brass, then last – but by no means least – Skelmanthorpe Band. As dusk fell, the three bands came together to perform the ever-popular ‘Prom Finale’ of Sir Hubert Parry’s Jerusalem, Sir Henry Wood’s ‘Fantasia On British Seasongs’ and bringing the concert to a close for another year, Sir Edward Elgar’s ‘Pomp And Circumstance’.
As usual, hot and cold refreshments were served by the staff and committee of Thorncliffe Club and to everyone’s amazement the weather stayed fine throughout the entire evening.
